Trip to Clear Lake and Forest City, Iowa

This is the Memorial that sits in front of the Surf Ballroom in memory of Rock 'N Roll legends  Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J. D. Richardson.  Hubby and I are standing in the room were all the acts stay before they performed at the Surf.  The Surf is located in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Next are a few pictures from the Winnebago 50th Birthday Bash, we attended in Forest City, Iowa. The town really welcomed us, for over 1300 motor homes arrived for the festivities. All the states except for Hawaii was present.  Our Canadian neighbors also came and took part in the rally.
The town held their annual parade  called the Puckerbush Parade and Winnebago was represented in it.  They also held the biggest bbq I ever seen, 700 chickens cooked while we all enjoyed the parade.
Back at the campgrounds, entertainment was provided by New Odyssey, Bobby Vee and Jason D. Williams , only to name a few.  There was seminars, tours, and site seeing events to attend.
A host of parties took place on the grounds, and an award was given for the best decorated State Roll and Illinois won it.  Each state  hosted a sample of either food or drink for the campers to try.  Illinois offered cake and ice cream, Arizona had Margaritas, Florida had Fried Chicken and Texas had chili dogs and chili as example.  No one went back to their campers hungry.

Return to Utica

Pictured above is the aftermath of the rains that came during the night on our second night of camping at Hickory Hollow. We had no choice but to ask management to move us to a new site for our camper was surrounded by 4 inches of rain water that never resided our whole stay at the camp grounds.

A new attraction to the area is a towpath which is a road or track that runs alongside the banks of a river, canal, or other inland waterway. The purpose of a towpath is to allow a land vehicle, beasts of burden, or a team of human pullers to tow a boat, often a barge. This mode of transport was common where sailing was impossible due to rapid current, tunnels and bridges, or unfavourable winds. Pictured above is a mule pulling the "The Volunteer" a site seeing boat.

Having a husband who loves motorcycles we can't pass up the local Harley dealer in the area and purchase some new Harley clothes.
Gerber Daiseys I just had to photograph.

Members of the Windy City Winnies

I just returned from our Illinois Indians Winnebago-Itasca State Club Rally....It was held at the Iroquois County Fairgrounds.
The weekend included several tours to different local area sites . I attended a tour to Pontiac in which we walked through their historic downtown, Old city Hall and Firehouse, Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum, Livingston County War Museum, historic courthouse, and finally "All Aboard" their Jolly Trolley for a ride to visit historic homes, and their many parks . We also had lunch at the Old Log Cabin, built in 1926.
Back at the fairgrounds they offered a number of activities we could do. I attended a jewelry making craft session and made earrings and a bracelet. I also played Bean Bag Baseball and was on the team that won 1st. place. There was a craft contests, a flea market, craft sales, silent auctions, 50/50 raffles, and a money hat to win.
The theme for the weekend was the 50's, so many dressed up in poodle skirts, turned up collars, scarfs and saddle shoes. The event ended with root beer floats and ice cream sundaes.

Gift Package Idea

This gift set of note cards was published in Ready, Set, Create on line magazine........I have been giving these sets as gifts lately to friends and family. I change the theme of the cards to fit the occasion and they have been well received. The cards in this set just has patterned paper over card stock, at times I'll just stamp a simple design to the front of the card, or a simple sentiment, the idea's are endless on what you can do. Package them up by putting them in a clear envelope and making a topper or tying a ribbon around the set, with a small tag attached.

Wednesday Stamper---Eyelets

"EYELETS - a great embellishment that most people have in their arsenal. Let us see you use these creatively in your creations this week." That is the challenge at Wednesday Stampers this week.
The eyelets I used in the shape of butterflies came from Stamp Doctor.
