Touring Hannibal, Missouri.....pictures

The Group we traveled with (Windy City Winnies).......... As a group we meet and started our tour at the D & W Lake Campground in Champaign, Il. We proceed to Hannibal, Mo. and stayed at the Mark Twain Campground.  While there we took a tour of the city on a trolley and visited Mark Twain's home and museum.  We saw a play called Mark Twain Lives, played by Jim Waddle. We toured the Winegard Factory and saw how the toys that go into our motor homes are made.
We ventured off then to in Burlington, Ia and there  we tried our luck at a Casino and I walked out with a 15.00 win.   Other places of interest we visited are shown below.
Mark Twain Cave.....We toured the cave that Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher played in many years ago.  The tour guide told stories throughout the tour based on facts.

Cardiff Hill.....This is the foot of Cardiff Hill made famous in Mark Twain's Books  (Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn)  On the hill the boys played and roomed at will.

Hubby and I taking a narrated cruise on the Mississippi Riverboat called The Mark Twain
John Wood Mansion 1835....Governor of Illinois in 1860-1861  Home holds so many treasures of the past.
Two story, 2 room long cabin built in 1835 near Perry, Missouri.
Quincy Museum, Quincy, Illinois......The (Newcomb 1891 home) was returned to its original Victorian elegance, and today the home is on the National Register of Historic Places. The second and third floor have been developed for exhibits and educational programs including a discovery room for children.

Layers of Color Challenge...Roses

I own several stamps that are roses however this single stem rose is my favorite.  The stamp is by Art Impressions and the sentiment is by Embossing Arts Co.  Other materials used was patterned paper from Somerset that I took Amber Clay and Brush Rose Color Box Chalk Ink and inked around the edges of the paper rather heavily.  Bazzill  card stock and Hero Gemstones also was used to create this card.
Well back to packing up the camper, however when i saw this challenge I had to find reason to take a break and make a card. :)

Halloween Cards Simple and Fun

My intentions last night was not to make any cards but to straighten up my work station, however I ran across a Halloween image sitting on my desk.  That one image resulted in a series of  cards that are posted above.

Needless to say I never finished the job I intended to do, so with blinders on I'm off to clean my space and will see everyone in a week.  We are leaving for another camping trip to Hannibal, Mo. home of Mark Twin.

Our tentative Itinerary for this trip is to visit Mark Twain's boyhood home and museum,  do a trolley tour of Hannibal, have a dinner cruise on the Mississippi, tour Rockcliffe Mansion, see the Spratt Family Dinner show and hopefully get some relaxation  time in.

Thinking Pink With OBP

All stamps by Odd Bird Planet formally known as justjohanna stamps.  Card stock by Paper Company , patterned paper: SweetWater, embellishments: Karin Foster; ribbon and buttons unknown vendors.
Next month I'm going to be a grandmother for the 5 th time, and a few months later grandchild number 6 will make its debut.  I already have 3 grandsons and 1 granddaughter so thinking pink will just even out the score with the girls.  However, either boy or girl they will be welcomed with open arms.

Layers of Color challenge...Yellow

After being away a few days on a camping trip to Michigan City, In. it felt good to sit down and play with some new stamps I had received.  The stamps came from my husband who purchased them on our camping trip as a surprise to me while I was out with the girls shopping in La Porte.  All the stamps he purchased are Snoopy riding different vehicles.

This weeks challenge at Layers of Color is to include one stamp and the color Yellow in ones artwork.   So I gave Snoopy a flaming hot paint job on his bike.

Trip to Clear Lake and Forest City, Iowa

This is the Memorial that sits in front of the Surf Ballroom in memory of Rock 'N Roll legends  Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J. D. Richardson.  Hubby and I are standing in the room were all the acts stay before they performed at the Surf.  The Surf is located in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Next are a few pictures from the Winnebago 50th Birthday Bash, we attended in Forest City, Iowa. The town really welcomed us, for over 1300 motor homes arrived for the festivities. All the states except for Hawaii was present.  Our Canadian neighbors also came and took part in the rally.
The town held their annual parade  called the Puckerbush Parade and Winnebago was represented in it.  They also held the biggest bbq I ever seen, 700 chickens cooked while we all enjoyed the parade.
Back at the campgrounds, entertainment was provided by New Odyssey, Bobby Vee and Jason D. Williams , only to name a few.  There was seminars, tours, and site seeing events to attend.
A host of parties took place on the grounds, and an award was given for the best decorated State Roll and Illinois won it.  Each state  hosted a sample of either food or drink for the campers to try.  Illinois offered cake and ice cream, Arizona had Margaritas, Florida had Fried Chicken and Texas had chili dogs and chili as example.  No one went back to their campers hungry.

Return to Utica

Pictured above is the aftermath of the rains that came during the night on our second night of camping at Hickory Hollow. We had no choice but to ask management to move us to a new site for our camper was surrounded by 4 inches of rain water that never resided our whole stay at the camp grounds.

A new attraction to the area is a towpath which is a road or track that runs alongside the banks of a river, canal, or other inland waterway. The purpose of a towpath is to allow a land vehicle, beasts of burden, or a team of human pullers to tow a boat, often a barge. This mode of transport was common where sailing was impossible due to rapid current, tunnels and bridges, or unfavourable winds. Pictured above is a mule pulling the "The Volunteer" a site seeing boat.

Having a husband who loves motorcycles we can't pass up the local Harley dealer in the area and purchase some new Harley clothes.
Gerber Daiseys I just had to photograph.
