Burgoo 2008 & Starved Rock Trip

Photo's are from our recent trip to Starved Rock, the first one is my husband and our camping friends posing in front of a Halloween decoration outside Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Lodge in Utica which we found so neat.

Next are a few photo's of  one of the canyons that we hiked to and one can see at Staved Rock State Park.  We are standing in the one photo at the French Falls.

We also attended the 39th Burgoo Festival while in Utica, with about 30,000 other people. The festival is held by the LaSalle County Historical Society and it is their main fund-raising event of the year.
Burgoo is the highlight of the festival for it's a pioneer stew that  gave its name to the festival.  The stew contains beef and many kinds of vegetables and secret herbs and spices.  It is cooked outdoors over a wood-burning fire for 12 to 18 hours and volunteers stir and look over it until the festival begins.  The festival also has over 225 vendor, a flea market and craftsmen who sell
every thing one can imagine.  Just a fun time for all.
